The Normanton rugby club (tentative) was a Rugby Union team founded in 1879.
History
Normanton initially stayed as part of the Rugby Football Union when a number of Yorkshire and Lancashire teams founded a the rival "Northern Union" (now the Rugby Football League) after the RFU voted to remove missed work compensation to working-class players. The team finally joined Northern Union in 1898. Normanton eventually fell out of the Northern Union at the end of the 1905-6 season along with Castleford RFC due to funding issues. Normanton's last game of the season, against Millom RLFC, was cancelled because they could not afford to travel to Cumbria.

The dates of the matches were changed in a Northern Rugby League committee meeting on 9 September, pairing Normanton against Holbeck on 25 December instead of the intended 21 February date.[1] During the match against Castleford, the Castleford members played with black armbands due to the death of a committee man. It was noted that the wind put Normanton at a disadvantage in the first half.[2]

All fourteen teams played 26 games. Normanton came in 10th, below Castleford and Pontefract at 9 and 8. Normanton won 9 matches but lost 16 with one draw. All matches were played on Saturdays. Take note the Normanton v Birkenhead match did not take place due to Birkenhead resigning from the league.
